On behalf of the International 470 Class, I would like to thank you for your support in selecting the 470 as the equipment for the new mixed two-person dinghy event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and for your continued recognition of the key role the 470 plays in the Olympic programme.
Your decision marks a milestone in the evolution of the Olympic sailing events, and the new line-up of four mixed events on the sailing programme represents a catalyst for the promotion of women athletes within NOCs and MNAs around the world. As always, the 470 Class will support all opportunities to enable gender equality through our established worldwide popularity across men, women and mixed teams, and we will continue to encourage and develop all disciplines.
The Mixed Two Person dinghy will demonstrate that women and men can compete together, with each gender equally important to the success of the team. The team configurations will not be fixed, and the 470 Class will modify as necessary any class rules to make sure there is no advantage to either the man or woman being helm or crew, offering real parity for men and women. The 470 Class continues as the only equipment on the Olympic programme giving access to lightweight men and women.
The 470 Class is very excited about the future and working with all of you, MNAs, our National Class Associations and sailors to deliver the new mixed two-person dinghy event.

President
